OLYMPIC LEGEND COMES TO THE CLC
TO LAY FOUNDATIONS FOR 2012 LEGACY
Former Olympic Champion Dr David Hemery came to the CLC and announced details of a national roll out of an ambitious Olympics legacy for Britain's youngsters post in London 2012. The former world record holder has founded 21st Century Legacy, an educational charity designed to deliver on London's Olympic bid promise to inspire young people in Britain and throughout the world, as a result of the Games being held in London.
21st Century Legacy has developed a schools Programme called Be the Best you can Be!, to enable young people to unlock the potential within themselves, to pursue and fulfil their dreams. The charity aims to have 80% of UK secondary schools participating in the Programme by 2016.
The Programme fulfils National Curriculum aims to deliver personalised learning, raise standards and aspirations, and encourage effective, high quality teaching and learning and is currently running in more than 40 Secondary Schools having an impact on the lives of over 5,000 students.
David spoke to a group of Blackpool Headteachers, council representatives and practitioners on how this could impact upon Blackpool young people.
