Working with secondary schools
Blackpool CLC supports all eight Blackpool secondary schools in some way or another, we have a dedicated Secondary Teacher in Philip Wright (please see our contacts page for Phil's details). One of Phil's many talents is making a subject interesting and real, some of his recent work has involved building a trench in the CLC grounds, this was to recreate life in a World War 1 trench. Some pictures which were taken on this great day can be seen below.
Phil also hosted several weeks of CSI based on the popular TV show which attracted many schools, a mock murder was held at the CLC and pupils were required to use various investigation techniques such as finger printing, data examination, intervieving suspects, code breaking and much more. Great fun was had by all including the staff at the CLC who all played up to their parts and as a result some staff have been advised to audition on the Bill!
Several live debates including "Question Time" which featured several political figures and local councilors, this was carried out in our 100 seater lecture theatre and was streamed live back into schools. Another was regards President Obama and his expected impact as the new President of the United States of America, some pictures can be found below which link link to this debate.
Philip is currently working on a project to develope an interesting way to collate data from students on the PLTS (Personal Learning and Thinking Skills) Framework. Using mobile devises he is looking at a way of getting students to teach each other by sharing their resources on Fronter. Currently there are 30 netbooks in Collegiate Sports Collges Hummanties and English facualties, that are used by students and will have a great impact on grades.
In the Summer 2010, Philip will be working into large projects that will be a first to Blackpool. A permanent trench will be built that will be accessable to all students and an archeological dig. The dig will allow students to uncover a Roman town (Blackpool-ia) based on some of the ideas that students will have seen in the TV program Time Team.
