Boundary Primary and Christ The King at the CLC

This term has seen a successful period of collaborative working between Boundary Primary School and Christ the King Catholic School. The children have worked alongside each other in ICT lessons, library sessions and local history and culture workshops. Children's ICT skills have significantly improved with children now being able to successfully create and use spreadsheets, select information from a database and search for information on the internet, amongst other skills. The facilities at the CLC have allowed a full class to use the computers without the need to restrict children's learning by having too many children sharing one piece of equipment. The CLC provides up-to-date software in a user friendly environment.

The children have been grateful for the re-opening of the library service and many children now frequent the library regularly as a result of their identification of its benefits during their school library sessions. Children enjoy searching for a book amongst the library's collection and being able to change this regularly.

The local history and culture lessons have allowed children from the two schools to work in mixed ability groups to produce literacy based work such as persuasive leaflets encouraging people to come to Blackpool. Children have been able to explore the history of Grange Park as well as the wider area of Blackpool. These sessions have interested children and helped to develop their cultural identity. The children have enjoyed working with the other school and many have formed friendships which have continued outside of lessons.

Holocaust Memorial Day 2012

Two event were held at the CLC for Secondary and Primary Schools.  Thames, Mereside, St John Vianney, St John's and Ashton Community came to the CLC at the end of November, and Palatine, Unity, St George's and St.Mary's came in at the beginning of December as a precursor for the Holocaust event to be held at the CLC on 27th January.

The schools along with Nigel Duckworth (Co-ordinator) were preparing ideas, resources and presentations which they will be making to the public on the Holcaust Memorial Day.

The objectives were to enhance understanding of the Holocaust and its legacy.  Presentations based on the theme 'Speak Up - Speak Out' and the understanding of what this means were formulated and increased understanding of racism now and then and speaking up against injustice etc was discussed.
